Before he could make the decision it seemed like she made it for him. She wanted him to choose between her and his family. She didn’t even like him going back to Alexandria to visit Michonne, his niece and nephew, his SONS. His entire attention wasn’t on her and she didn’t like that. But when she found out he was still looking for his dead wife, she lost it. Having him looking for his brother didn’t bother her as much. Nothing would ever replace the touch, warmth and love Rose made him feel. Leah was the first person he stumbled upon. He was lonely, touch starved, and looking for comfort in anything and anyone. The woman came into his life at his weakest. Not even when Leah came into the picture. After many sleepless nights they finally went down relatively easy. That is how Daryl found himself being able to put the boys to sleep with some of Rose’s unwashed shirts. Young Children and infants know the scent of their mother, and it’s supposed to comfort them. Thankfully, he remembered Rose telling him an old wives tale when the boys were infants and the two of them had to switch back and forth at the Sanctuary. There was nothing he could do about it, and they were far too young to understand what happened. They cried, fussed, and begged for their mama. Most days they seemed to be attached to Daryl’s hips, but as soon as Rose disappeared it was like they knew she was gone. She always seemed to know what to do in most situations. He never realized how much he leaned and depended on Rose for support. His person, team mate, and other half was gone. Life took a big shift after that terrible day.
